Red Ribbon Week

Hello All,

Just a reminder, in case you haven't already heard from your kid(s), that this week is Red Ribbon Week, where the kids are encouraged to stear clear of drugs and to make healthy choices. Below is a list of books (which was emailed to me) that are age-appropriate for Ms. Carrillo's class if you would like to share them with your children.

Have a great week! Oh, and Wednesday is Crazy Sock Day.

Letter/Word/Alphabet Friend for the Week of 10/12/09

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to put this out there in case you need it this week. Ryan couldn't remember the letter of the week one time and almost couldn't bring anything to share, but we found his homework sheet just in the nick of time. So, in case you're ever in a similar situation, I thought it would be a good idea to put these on our blog as a little reminder.

The word is "like". The letter is "Ss". And, the alphabet friend is Sammy Seal.

Have a great week.

America's Favorite School

Well, I wasn't able to attend the Room Rep meeting earlier this week, but I did hear from our lead RR, Mrs. Caneday, that our school is participating in a contest which appears from the website to be sponsored, at least in part, by Target Stores. It's called America's Favorite School, and you can only register once and vote once.

The top school wins $20,000, but there are other prizes given out totaling $16,000, including weekly prizes.

Please go check out this website and vote if the mood strikes you. Our school is listed under "R. L. Stevenson". It took me a bit to find it, so I'm trying to give everyone a leg up. Apparently it was also recommended that parents email their friends and family members the link as well so that they can vote.

Thanks for taking the time, Michelle

Update from Ms. Carrillo Re: Volunteers & Supplies (9/27/09)

I have gotten these parents cleared for the T.B. test: Melisa Lomet, Josie Kinnear, Melodie Silah, Karen Caneday, Denise Kane, and Jo Dee Freck. I am still getting our schedule together and will let you know when I need you. Thank you for volunteering!

We are doing great with the supplies you all sent in the beginning of the year. I'll let you know if anything gets low. Thank you SO much for your generosity.

Update from Ms. Carrillo Re: Homework for Week (9/27/09)

This week's homework update:
K - Letter Aa, word "see"
Math - patterning
Book Report
1 - Write 3 sentences about (1) favorite game to play at recess and (2) what do you like about fall?
Math - Chapter 3 Addition
Book Report

All are due on Friday in the red folder.

If your child brings in his/her homework on Friday, they will get 10 extra minutes to play at recess. We call this "Homework Club". If they do not bring in their homework, they have to stay in the classroom for those 10 minutes. If you cannot complete the homework by Friday, just write me a note and your child will get to play.

All the kids are encouraged to share a toy on Fridays. They can bring something that begins with the letter of the week, or anything they want, as long as 1) it's fun for the kids and 2) it's only one toy.

Update from Ms. Carrillo Re: Goings On (9/27/09)

Hi Room 7 Parents,

I just wanted to check in and see how everyone's doing. I wanted to get our blog started to fill you in on things happening in our classroom as of this week: Sept. 28.

We started dance class with Miss Megan. We will go to dance every Thursday and practice for the Dance Program in December. More information to follow. The kids have SO much fun!

We go to the Stevenson Library and check out a book on Tuesdays. Library books are due back to the classroom on Fridays. Our first library trip will be Tuesday, Sept. 29. We will buddy read with Mrs. Baade's class.

We have not yet visited our computer lab, but our scheduled day is Wednesdays. More information to follow.

October B-Days: Aliza (10/7)

See other posts from this date, but that's all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, comments, or corrections, please email me at StephanieCarrillo@burbankusd.org. By the way, this is a correction from the email address I put in the Back to School Night packet. Sorry for the mistake!

Thank you for being so involved in your child's academic experience. You are the best!!!

Welcome to Mrs. Carrillo's Class!

Hi,

I want to take this opportunity to step up and say that I will manage the blog for the classroom, and, barring anyone saying they would prefer to do it, I want to introduce myself. My son, Ryan, is currently 4 1/2, and is a big kindergartner in Ms. Carrillo's class. He adores going to school every day. My husband, Brett, and I also have a 7 year old, Kyle, in Ms. Lavitt's class.

We are new to Burbank (lived in Glendale for the past year), and are still relatively new to California, although I spent quite a bit of time in Ventura growing up. We moved from Arkansas last September, so if you've talked to either of us for longer than 3 minutes and can't place the accent, well, there ya go! We love what we've experienced in Burbank so far and are very pleased that we were able to find a home in the Stevenson district.

As for the blog, I will do my best to keep everyone updated as to the goings on in Room 7, including field trip and parties information/reminders, supply wishlists from Ms. Carrillo, upcoming festivities (including volunteers needed) such as Boo Bash, student birthdays, and homework assignments/reminders from Ms. Carrillo, etc. I'm sure this will be a work in progress. I welcome any feedback that you may have and ask your patience while I get up to speed on blogging.

Please feel free to ask my anything on here, or once the class roster list comes out, to call or email me.

Thanks!

Michelle
